      "Finding Free & Low-Cost Business Advice"

    Executive Director of the DaVinci Experience

    Do you need professional business advice but think you can't afford it? Join Judy Crosby as she shows us where to find knowledgeable, objective help with starting, running, and growing your business - all at the right price! This workshop will have handouts with resources, websites, and contact information. Judy will share how she used many of these resources to start and build her businesses.

    Judy had taught from kindergarten to college level and had experience working with several museums in informal education before starting with her own business. Sixteen years ago, her interest in both science and art led her to create the DaVinci Experience Science & Art Camps and After School Programs for children. Thousands of children from Maine and around the world have participated in the DaVinci Experience.  Eighteen months ago, Judy also started the DaVinci Experience Art Gallery in Falmouth to support established local artists and emerging artists.

Both members and guests may provide a 15-second introduction, and this is an excellent opportunity to meet and network with between 20 and 30 other business women. 

    The cost to attend is $10 for members and $12 for non-members and includes a Continental Breakfast.  We love having guests and prospective members!

    Your registration is a commitment to attend, and a meal will be ordered in your name. If you need to cancel your registration, please give us at least a 24-hour notice.     However, in the event you have to cancel and both parties are unable to provide a replacement, you will be invoiced for the registration fee plus a $5.00 administrative fee.

    On Wednesday, May 7, The Midcoast Chapter of Maine Women’s Network will host guest Amy Root.

    Bust out of your rut. Get back on track. Bring back your joy. You don’t have to change your entire life to feel good again. You need a clear vision and a few simple shifts that will reignite your spirit.  We all have the same 24 hours each day. This presentation outlines a path to making your days work for you by connecting with your healthiest self again. Amy shows us how to open the doors to feeling good again and welcome in healthier habits, movement, exercise and art.  Rediscover what makes YOU tick.

    Hope resident, Amy Root earned a Master of Public Health degree in Community Health Education from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 2000. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Fitness from Springfield College in 1993. Amy is a certified Personal Trainer with the American Council on Exercise and is a YogaFit Instructor. Through a variety of methods Amy motivates and inspires groups and individuals to create a deeper commitment to bringing joy to their lives.  On a personal level, Amy balances a career as Director of Development at the LifeFlight Foundation with other passions including being a triathlete, a wife, and a mother to two active girls.

    The cost of the meeting, which includes full buffet and dessert and time for networking, is $25 for members and $30 for guests of members and/or non-members. Guests and non-members are always welcome. Online registration for members and non-members is required.  Registration will close on Friday, May 2, 2013 at 9:00 am.

                Janet Edmunson, M.Ed. is a national keynote speaker, trainer and author as well as the Founder and President of JME Insights and Partner with sPeak Performance. With over 30 years' leadership experience in both large (Fortune 50) and small organizations, Janet retired in 2007 from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts as Director of Prevent & Wellness to pursue her passion to help individuals and worksites adopt the principles of positive psychology for enhanced performance and inspiration through life's challenges. Since retirement, she has been a consultant and national motivational speaker, having spoken to over 300 groups to date.

    While still working full-time, Janet took care of her husband Charles during the five years he fought a rare neurological disease. In her book, Finding Meaning with Charles, she wrote about how they strived to maintain a positive attitude throughout.

    Janet is the immediate past chair of the Board of Directors for the national Foundation for PSP/CBD and Related Brain Diseases. She is also on the Board of Trustees for the Employee Ownership Foundation. Janet is a former President of the Association for Worksite Health Promotion and has a Master's degree from Georgia State University.

    Life Under the Dome - 
    A Birds Eye View of Our States Legislature

    In 2013, women made up 24.2% of all state legislators nationwide.  In a world where women are gaining ground in the business world, why are we so under-represented in our government?

    Rep Peggy Rotundo has represented Lewiston in the Maine State Legislature for over thirteen years. She has served on the Legislature's Education Committee, the Senate Ethics Committee, and currently serves as the House Chair of the Appropriations Committee( the Legislature's budget committee). She has served as the Chair of the Lewiston School Board and the President of the Maine School Boards Association. Rep Rotundo has received numerous awards for her work to improve educational opportunities  in Maine, to improve the environment and to create greater civility in public life. She also currently serves as  the Director of Strategic and Policy Initiatives at the Bates College Harward Center for Community Partnerships.
